Once upon a time, in a little house with a blue front door, there lived a child named Ivy.
Ivy loved to watch the sky.
Every evening, they would sit by the window with their friend Puddle, a small yellow duckling with the softest feathers.
Puddle would nestle close, and together they would watch the clouds drift by.
One quiet afternoon, after a gentle rain, Ivy saw something beautiful.
A rainbow stretched across the sky, glowing soft and bright.
"Puddle," Ivy whispered, "where do rainbows sleep when the day is done?"
Puddle tilted their little head and gave a soft, wondering peep.
Ivy decided they would find out.
They put on their cozy boots and stepped outside, and Puddle waddled right beside them.
The grass was damp and cool under their feet.
The air smelled sweet, like rain and flowers.
They walked to the meadow where the sky felt big and close.
Ivy looked up at the fading rainbow.
"Maybe it sleeps in the clouds," they said softly.
Puddle peeped again, a gentle, sleepy sound.
But the rainbow was already growing dim.
Its colors were melting into the sky like watercolors on soft paper.
Ivy felt a wobbly, fluttery feeling in their tummy because they wanted to know the answer before it disappeared.
Then Ivy noticed something.
The clouds above were turning pink and gold as the sun began to set.
The rainbow's colors were blending into them, soft and warm.
"Oh," Ivy whispered. "The rainbow doesn't go away. It tucks itself into the clouds to rest."
Puddle snuggled closer to Ivy's ankle.
Ivy knelt down in the damp grass and gently stroked Puddle's warm, downy head.
"Where do rainbows sleep?" Ivy said again, smiling now. "They sleep in the clouds, Puddle. Safe and soft."
The sky grew quieter.
The pink clouds drifted slowly, like they were rocking the rainbow to sleep.
A cool, gentle breeze brushed Ivy's cheek.
Ivy closed their eyes for just a moment and felt the soft air all around them.
"We should go home now," Ivy whispered.
Puddle gave one last peep, soft as a sigh.
They walked back together, slowly, under the dimming sky.
The meadow grass swished gently with each step.
The world felt calm and still.
Inside the little house, Ivy's room was warm and golden with lamplight.
Ivy changed into their softest pajamas.
Puddle hopped into the little basket by Ivy's bed and fluffed their feathers with a sleepy rustle.
Ivy climbed under the covers.
The blanket was heavy and cozy, like a warm hug.
Through the window, the clouds had turned deep purple and blue.
The rainbow was tucked inside them now, resting.
"Where do rainbows sleep, Puddle?" Ivy whispered one last time.
But Puddle was already asleep, breathing soft and slow.
Ivy smiled.
They knew the answer now.
Rainbows sleep in the clouds, wrapped in soft colors, safe and warm.
And so did Ivy.
Their eyes grew heavy.
The room was quiet and still.
Outside, the sky held the rainbow gently as it dreamed.
And Ivy, with Puddle close by, drifted off to sleep too.
