Once upon a time, in a little house beneath a big, soft sky, there lived a child named Ollie.
Ollie loved to watch the clouds drift by.
They would lie on their back in the grass and count them, one by one.
Their best friend was Pip, a little owl with feathers as soft as moonlight.
One evening, the sky turned a gentle silver-blue.
Ollie felt a wobbly, fluttery feeling in their tummy.
"Pip," they whispered, "the sky looks so quiet tonight. Where do the clouds go when the sun sets?"
Pip ruffled their feathers and blinked their big, round eyes.
"Let's follow them and see," Pip said softly.
So Ollie and Pip set out across the meadow, walking slowly through the tall, whispery grass.
The air smelled like damp earth and wildflowers.
Above them, the clouds drifted like boats on a silver sea.
They climbed a small hill, and the sky seemed even closer.
Ollie could hear a soft sound, like a hum.
It was the sky itself, humming a sleepy tune.
"Do you hear that, Pip?" Ollie asked. "The sky is humming."
Pip nodded and hooted gently.
"It hums every night," Pip said, "to help the clouds fall asleep."
Ollie wanted to help the clouds, too.
They stood very still and listened to the hum of silver light.
Then, very softly, Ollie began to hum along.
The clouds seemed to slow down.
They drifted closer, softer, like feathers floating on a breeze.
One cloud brushed Ollie's cheek, cool and damp and gentle.
"Thank you," the cloud seemed to whisper.
A tiny rainbow appeared, glowing in the silver air.
It was no bigger than Ollie's hand, and it shimmered like a secret.
"That's the sky's way of saying goodnight," Pip said.
Ollie smiled.
They felt warm and safe, standing on the hill with Pip.
The hum of silver light wrapped around them like a blanket.
They walked back down the hill, slowly, slowly.
The grass brushed their ankles.
The sky hummed its sleepy tune.
When they reached their little house, Ollie climbed into bed.
Pip perched on the windowsill, tucking their head beneath one wing.
"Goodnight, Pip," Ollie whispered.
"Goodnight, Ollie," Pip whispered back.
Outside, the clouds drifted off to sleep.
Inside, Ollie closed their eyes and listened to the hum of silver light.
And soon, they were dreaming, warm and safe and loved.
