Long, long ago, in a soft white cottage beneath the clouds, there lived a little girl named Luna.
Luna loved to watch the sky.
Every evening, she would sit by her window with Marbles, her gentle rabbit, nestled warm in her lap.
Marbles had fur as soft as dandelion fluff.
Tonight, the sky looked different.
The clouds had forgotten their colors.
They drifted by, pale and quiet, like whispers with no words.
"The clouds look sad," Luna said softly.
Marbles twitched his nose and leaned closer.
Luna thought and thought.
Then she remembered something wonderful.
In her grandmother's garden shed, there was a paintbrush that could touch the sky.
She carried Marbles outside, stepping gently on the cool grass.
The evening air smelled like honeysuckle and rain.
Luna found the paintbrush resting on a wooden shelf.
It glowed with a gentle, silvery light.
"We can help the clouds remember," she whispered to Marbles.
Luna reached up on her tiptoes.
She touched the paintbrush to the nearest cloud.
A ribbon of soft pink bloomed across the sky.
Marbles wiggled his ears with delight.
Luna painted again.
This time, a curl of gentle orange appeared.
Then a whisper of lavender.
Then the palest, sleepiest yellow.
"The clouds remember now," Luna said.
The colors began to flow together, making a rainbow so soft it looked like a dream.
The rainbow arched across the sky, glowing in the fading light.
It hummed a lullaby that only Luna and Marbles could hear.
Luna sat down in the cool grass.
Marbles hopped into her lap, warm and drowsy.
The rainbow's light wrapped around them like the softest blanket.
"The clouds remember now," Luna whispered again.
Above them, the sky glowed pink and gold and gentle blue.
The clouds drifted slower now, peaceful and content.
One by one, stars began to blink awake.
Luna yawned.
Marbles yawned too, his little nose twitching.
Together, they walked back inside, carrying the paintbrush carefully.
Luna climbed into bed with Marbles curled beside her pillow.
Through the window, the rainbow still glowed, soft as a sigh.
The clouds drifted by, remembering their colors, remembering their dreams.
"Goodnight, clouds," Luna whispered.
Marbles nestled closer, warm and safe.
And as the stars watched over them, Luna and Marbles closed their eyes and drifted off to sleep, wrapped in the gentle colors of the evening sky.
