Once upon a time, in a little house beneath a wide and gentle sky, there lived a girl named Nora.
She had soft brown hair and a tiny lamb named Clover who stayed by her side always.
Clover's wool was white as moonlight, and she made the softest baa sound, like a whisper.
One calm evening, Nora looked out her window at the stars.
"I wonder if the stars ever sleep," she said quietly.
Clover nuzzled her hand and baa'd so gently.
Nora wrapped herself in her warmest blanket.
She picked up Clover, who was small enough to carry.
Together they stepped outside into the cool, hushed night.
The grass was soft beneath Nora's bare feet.
The air smelled like night flowers and faraway pine trees.
Above them, the sky was scattered with stars, glowing like tiny candles.
"Let's count them," Nora whispered.
Clover tucked close against her.
Nora looked up at the first star, the brightest one.
"One star," she said softly.
The star seemed to flicker, just a little, as if it heard her.
She found another star, smaller and pale.
"Two stars."
That one flickered too, slower this time, like a sleepy blink.
Nora walked a few steps across the soft grass.
Clover's warm weight made her feel safe.
"Three stars," Nora counted, her voice like a lullaby.
The third star dimmed just a tiny bit, glowing softer now.
She kept walking, slow and easy.
The night wrapped around them like the coziest hug.
"Four stars," she whispered.
That star seemed to sigh, settling into the velvet sky.
"I think they do sleep," Nora said, smiling.
"When someone counts them gently."
She found a fifth star, way up high.
"Five stars," she breathed.
It flickered once, twice, then glowed so softly it almost disappeared into dreams.
Nora's eyes felt heavy now, warm and calm.
Clover made her quiet baa sound again, slower than before.
"Six stars," Nora murmured, counting one more.
The star dimmed like a candle going out for the night.
Nora turned back toward her little house.
The window glowed with a gentle golden light.
Her blanket felt heavier, warmer, pulling her softly home.
She carried Clover inside and climbed into her bed.
The sheets were cool and smooth.
Clover curled up right beside her pillow, breathing soft and even.
Outside, the stars Nora had counted were glowing dimmer now, settling into sleep.
"Goodnight, stars," Nora whispered.
Her eyes closed.
The night hummed its quietest lullaby.
Nora's breathing slowed to match Clover's gentle rhythm.
And together, beneath the wide and sleepy sky, they drifted softly into the warmest, safest dreams.
