Kai looked up at the night sky from the soft blanket on the grass.
The stars were twinkling, one by one.
But something was different tonight.
A small, glowing moon drifted down from the darkness.
It was Nova, and Nova had gentle silver light all around her.
"Hello, Kai," Nova whispered.
"The stars are so tired tonight."
Kai sat up slowly.
"Why are the stars tired?" Kai asked softly.
Nova floated closer, warm and glowing.
"They've been shining all night, every night," she said.
"They forgot how to rest."
Kai stood up and reached out a hand.
Nova's light felt warm, like a cozy bath.
"Can we help them?" Kai wondered.
Nova nodded, her glow getting softer and softer.
"We can sing them a lullaby," she whispered.
"A song that helps the stars remember how to sleep."
Kai thought about this.
The grass was cool and soft under Kai's feet.
The night air smelled like lavender and dreams.
"I know a sleepy song," Kai said gently.
They floated up together, slow and easy.
Kai held onto Nova's warm, silver light.
The stars grew closer, twinkling but flickering.
One star blinked at them.
It looked so very tired.
"We're here to help you rest," Kai whispered to the star.
Kai began to hum, soft and low.
The tune was like a warm blanket wrapping around the sky.
Nova hummed too, her light glowing softer and softer.
The tired star listened.
Its twinkling slowed down, gentle and calm.
"That's it," Nova said quietly.
"The stars are listening."
More stars drifted closer.
They gathered around Kai and Nova like sleepy fireflies.
Each one flickered, tired and ready to rest.
Kai sang the words now, barely a whisper.
"Close your eyes, little light…
Rest your glow through the night…"
The stars began to dim, one by one.
Their light grew soft, like nightlights in a cozy room.
Nova's glow became the gentlest silver.
"The stars are remembering," she said softly.
"They're remembering how to sleep."
Kai felt so warm, so peaceful.
The sky around them was darker now, but not scary.
It was soft, like a velvet blanket.
One by one, the stars closed their light.
They didn't go out—they just rested.
Their glow became a quiet shimmer, peaceful and still.
"Close your eyes, little light," Kai sang again, even softer.
Nova drifted down, carrying Kai gently back to the blanket.
The grass was still cool and soft.
The night was still and quiet now.
Kai lay down on the blanket, looking up.
The stars were resting, their light a gentle, sleepy glow.
"We helped them," Kai whispered.
Nova settled beside Kai, her warm silver light wrapping around them both.
"You did," she said, her voice like a soft breeze.
"And now it's time for you to rest too."
Kai's eyes felt heavy, so heavy.
The blanket was warm beneath them.
The air smelled sweet and sleepy.
"Close your eyes, little light," Nova sang now, just for Kai.
Kai's eyes closed.
The stars were resting.
Nova was glowing softly, keeping watch.
Everything was safe.
Everything was warm.
Kai drifted into the softest, coziest sleep, under the sleepy stars and the gentle moon.
And all through the night, the stars and Kai dreamed together.
