Once upon a time, in a land where stars hung low and close like lanterns, there lived a girl named Luna.
Luna had soft brown hair and warm sleepy eyes.
She lived in a little cottage at the edge of a meadow that glowed silver in the moonlight.
Tonight, Luna couldn't quite fall asleep.
She felt a gentle wondering in her heart.
So she tiptoed to her window and looked out at the starry sky.
Her companion, Marbles the rabbit, hopped softly to her side.
Marbles had fur as white as clouds and ears that folded like velvet.
"Let's go see the moonbells," Luna whispered.
Marbles twitched his nose and nodded.
They stepped outside into the warm, drowsy night.
The grass was cool and damp beneath Luna's bare feet.
The air smelled like honey and lavender.
They walked slowly through the meadow, following a path of silver light.
The stars hummed a quiet lullaby above them.
Soon they came to a garden Luna had never seen before.
It was tucked between two willow trees that swayed like dancers.
In the garden grew flowers shaped like tiny bells.
They were pale blue and glowing softly.
The moonbells.
Luna knelt down and touched one gently.
It rang with the softest, sleepiest sound…
Like a faraway chime wrapped in silk.
"They sing when you're kind to them," Luna whispered.
Marbles hopped close and nuzzled another moonbell with his nose.
It chimed too, soft and low.
Luna smiled.
She felt her eyes growing heavy.
But then she noticed something.
One moonbell in the center of the garden had stopped glowing.
It looked tired and dim.
Luna's heart felt a little worried.
"Maybe it needs something," she said softly.
Marbles looked up at her with his deep, gentle eyes.
Luna thought for a moment.
Then she remembered the lullaby the stars were humming.
She began to hum it too, soft and slow.
She hummed it to the dim moonbell, just for it.
The flower trembled.
Its petals lifted a little.
Luna kept humming, and Marbles settled beside her, warm and still.
Slowly, gently, the moonbell began to glow again.
It chimed once, soft as a breath.
"They sing when you're kind to them," Luna whispered again, smiling.
Now all the moonbells glowed together.
Their light was soft as a blanket.
Their chimes were quiet as a whisper.
Luna felt so sleepy now.
She lay down in the grass beside Marbles.
The rabbit curled up close, his fur warm against her cheek.
The moonbells sang their lullaby.
The stars hummed above.
The willow trees swayed like a gentle rocking.
Luna closed her eyes.
She felt safe.
She felt warm.
She felt loved.
And with Marbles beside her and the moonbells glowing all around, Luna drifted softly, softly into the most peaceful sleep.
