Far away, where the hills meet the stars, there lived a boy named Max who loved the ocean more than anything.
Every evening, he would walk down the sandy path to a quiet cove, where the water was as smooth as glass.
Tonight, the moon was round and silver, making a gentle path of light across the sea.
Max sat on the warm sand and dipped his toes in the cool water.
That's when he heard a soft splash.
A baby seal with big dark eyes popped up from the waves.
"Hello," Max whispered. "What's your name?"
The seal wiggled closer and made a happy little sound.
"I'll call you Bubbles," Max said softly.
Bubbles clapped her flippers, and tiny droplets sparkled in the moonlight.
Max wanted to see what the cove looked like beneath the waves.
He took a deep breath, and Bubbles dove down beside him.
Under the water, everything was quiet and blue.
Soft seaweed swayed like curtains in a gentle breeze.
A school of silver fish drifted by, moving all together like one shimmering cloud.
Max felt so calm, floating there with Bubbles by his side.
They swam deeper, where the water felt cool and soft against Max's skin.
A sea turtle glided past, slow and peaceful, her shell glowing green in the dim light.
She nodded at Max as if to say, "Welcome."
Bubbles nudged Max gently with her nose and pointed with one flipper.
There, tucked into the sandy bottom, was a giant clamshell, half-open and glowing with a pale, warm light.
Max swam closer, curious.
Inside the shell were tiny glowing pearls, each one giving off a soft, sleepy glow.
"They're beautiful," Max whispered, and his voice made soft bubbles that floated up.
Bubbles nestled close to Max, resting her head on his shoulder.
The pearls hummed a quiet, gentle song—so quiet Max could barely hear it.
It sounded like the ocean itself was singing.
Max felt his eyes growing heavy.
He realized he didn't need to do anything but float here, safe and warm.
Bubbles blinked slowly, her eyes closing bit by bit.
Max gave the clamshell a soft thank-you pat, and it closed gently, keeping its light safe inside.
Together, Max and Bubbles drifted up toward the surface.
The moon was waiting for them, big and kind.
Max climbed back onto the warm sand, and Bubbles snuggled beside him, her fur soft and damp.
The waves whispered their quiet song—the same song as the pearls.
Max rested his head on the sand, and Bubbles rested hers on his arm.
The stars blinked down at them, slow and sleepy.
"Goodnight, Bubbles," Max whispered.
Bubbles gave one last happy wiggle.
And as the ocean sang its soft, gentle song, Max closed his eyes and drifted off to sleep, safe and warm in the cove where the waves never stopped singing.
