In a cozy little cottage at the edge of the woods, a child named Ollie was getting ready for bed.
Outside the window, the forest was settling down for the night.
The trees swayed gently in the evening breeze.
Ollie looked out and saw a little owl perched on the windowsill.
"Hello," Ollie whispered.
"I'm Pip," the owl said softly.
"I can't find my way home in the dark."
Ollie thought for a moment.
"I'll help you," Ollie said.
"We can use my lantern."
Ollie picked up a small lantern that glowed with the softest golden light.
It felt warm in Ollie's hands.
Pip hopped onto Ollie's shoulder, and together they stepped into the quiet forest.
The lantern cast a gentle circle of light on the mossy ground.
The air smelled of pine and damp earth.
"Follow the soft wings," Pip whispered.
It was something Pip's mother used to say.
They walked slowly along a winding path.
A sleepy rabbit peeked out from beneath a fern.
"Follow the soft wings," the rabbit murmured, and pointed with one paw toward a hollow tree.
Ollie and Pip moved closer.
The lantern's glow touched the tree's bark, making it shine like copper.
A deer stood nearby, her eyes calm and kind.
"Follow the soft wings," she said gently, and nodded toward a grove of silver birches.
The forest felt like a lullaby.
Every step was quieter than the last.
The lantern's light grew softer and warmer.
At last, they reached a small nest tucked into the crook of an old oak tree.
"Home," Pip whispered.
The little owl nuzzled Ollie's cheek.
"Thank you."
Ollie smiled.
The lantern had guided them perfectly.
"Follow the soft wings," Ollie said, one last time.
Pip settled into the nest, wings tucked in tight.
Ollie turned and walked back through the forest, the lantern glowing like a tiny moon.
The rabbit was asleep beneath the fern.
The deer had closed her eyes.
The whole forest was breathing slowly, peacefully.
When Ollie reached the cottage, the lantern flickered and dimmed.
Ollie climbed into bed, pulling the blankets up close.
Outside, Pip was already dreaming.
Ollie's eyes grew heavy.
The forest was quiet.
The lantern sat on the nightstand, its light now just a soft ember.
And Ollie drifted off to sleep, safe and warm, dreaming of soft wings and golden light.
