The pillow felt too warm.
The stars outside seemed too bright.
Theo sat up and looked out the window at the glowing forest.
Beside him, Willow the bear cub opened one sleepy eye.
"Can't sleep?" she whispered.
Theo shook his head.
Willow took Theo's hand in her soft paw.
"Let's walk beneath the trees," she said gently.
"The forest always knows how to help."
They stepped outside into the cool, quiet night.
The grass was damp and soft under Theo's bare feet.
The air smelled like pine and rain.
A rabbit with silver ears hopped close.
"Too bright to sleep?" she asked kindly.
Theo nodded.
"The stars are sharing their light with us," the rabbit said.
"Maybe we need to share something back."
Theo thought for a moment.
He reached into his pocket and found a smooth white pebble.
It glowed faintly in the moonlight.
"I could share this," Theo said softly.
Willow smiled and squeezed his hand.
Together, they walked to the center of a clearing.
A deer with gentle eyes waited there.
A fox with a feathery tail sat beside her.
An owl dozed on a low branch above.
"We brought something to share," Theo whispered.
He placed the glowing pebble on the soft earth.
The animals gathered close, and the pebble's light grew warmer, softer.
It wrapped around them like a blanket made of stars.
"The stars are sharing their light with us," the rabbit said again, her voice like a lullaby.
Theo felt the warmth sink into his chest.
The deer lay down in the grass.
The fox curled beside her.
The owl tucked his head under his wing.
Willow guided Theo to a mossy spot beneath an old oak tree.
She nestled close, her fur warm and steady.
"The stars are sharing their light with us," Theo murmured.
He closed his eyes.
The forest hummed a low, sleepy song.
The glowing pebble dimmed to a gentle glow, just enough to keep them safe.
Theo felt his breathing slow.
Willow's paw rested on his.
The animals around them breathed in soft rhythm.
And together, beneath the kind and quiet stars, they all drifted into the warmest, deepest sleep.
