Once upon a time, by the edge of a quiet cove, a little girl named Ivy sat on the soft sand with her friend Puddle. Puddle was a small yellow duckling who loved the ocean more than anything. The sun was setting, painting the sky in gentle pinks and golds. Ivy wiggled her toes in the cool, damp sand and listened to the waves whisper, "Hush, hush, hush." Puddle waddled close and tucked herself under Ivy's arm. "I wonder what the ocean says," Ivy whispered softly. She wanted to understand the song of the sea. The waves rolled in, slow and smooth, whispering, "Hush, hush, hush." Ivy closed her eyes and leaned closer to the water's edge. A tiny silver fish peeked out from the shallow foam. "Hello," Ivy said, very gently. The fish didn't swim away. It circled once, twice, leaving soft ripples in the water. Puddle quacked a quiet little quack, and the fish seemed to listen. Then a sea turtle glided by, slow as a dream, her shell shining in the fading light. "She's beautiful," Ivy breathed. The turtle blinked her wise, dark eyes and dipped her head, as if saying goodnight. Ivy felt the ocean's coolness on her fingers. She felt the warm feathers of Puddle against her side. The waves kept whispering, "Hush, hush, hush." "Maybe the ocean is saying goodnight," Ivy said softly. Puddle nestled even closer. A jellyfish drifted past, glowing pale blue in the twilight, soft as a cloud underwater. Ivy watched it float, so gentle, so calm. She took a slow, deep breath of salty air. Then Ivy did something very brave and very small. She leaned down to the water and whispered back to the waves. "Goodnight, ocean," she said. "Thank you for your song." The waves seemed to sigh, long and peaceful. The fish swirled once more. The turtle nodded from the deep. And the jellyfish pulsed softly, like a tiny heartbeat in the sea. Ivy felt a warm, sleepy feeling spread through her whole body. Puddle's eyes were already closing. Together, they lay back on the sand, still warm from the day. The stars began to appear, one by one. The ocean whispered, "Hush, hush, hush." And Ivy, with Puddle tucked close, drifted off to sleep, safe and warm by the gentle, singing sea.
