Ada looked up at the night sky from her window.
One star twinkled brighter than all the rest.
It winked at her…
The star floated down, soft as a feather.
"Hello, Ada," it whispered. "I'm Comet."
Comet's light was warm and golden, like a tiny lamp.
"Will you help me find the sleepy song?" Comet asked softly.
Ada nodded.
She put on her softest slippers.
Together they floated up, up into the velvet dark.
The night air felt cool and silky on Ada's cheeks.
Stars hummed all around them, a gentle buzz like bees.
"Listen," whispered Comet. "The stars are trying to sing."
BUT the song wouldn't come together.
Each star hummed its own quiet tune.
Ada closed her eyes and listened harder.
She heard a low hum from a silver star.
She heard a high hum from a blue one.
"They need someone to bring them together," she said softly.
THEREFORE Ada began to hum, very gently.
Her voice was small and warm.
One by one, the stars joined her.
Their hums blended into one soft, sleepy melody.
"The sleepy song," whispered Comet, smiling.
The song wrapped around them like a blanket.
It smelled like warm milk and moonlight.
Ada felt her eyes growing heavy.
Comet carried her back down, down to her window.
"Thank you, Ada," Comet whispered.
The sleepy song drifted through the air, soft as breath.
Ada climbed into bed.
Comet settled on her pillow, glowing gentle gold.
The stars outside her window hummed the sleepy song.
Ada's eyes closed.
She felt warm and safe.
The sleepy song carried her into dreams.
And Comet stayed close, keeping watch, as Ada drifted off to sleep.
