Once upon a time, in a little blue house by the harbour, there lived a child named Max.
Max loved trucks and trains and all the vehicles that rumbled and rolled through the town.
But tonight, Max felt a wobbly, fluttery feeling in their tummy.
They couldn't quite fall asleep.
Max's friend Bubbles, a soft grey baby seal, wiggled up onto the windowsill.
Bubbles made a gentle arp-arp sound.
"What is it, Bubbles?" Max whispered.
Outside, the moon was stuck behind a cloud.
The whole harbour looked dark and shadowy.
"The boats need moonlight to find their way home," Max said softly.
"We have to help them."
Max put on their cozy slippers.
Bubbles slid down and waddled close beside them.
Together, they tiptoed outside into the cool, quiet night.
Max climbed into their little red wagon.
It had four wobbly wheels and a soft blanket tucked inside.
"This wagon can be our moonlight truck," Max whispered.
Bubbles arp-arped and snuggled in beside them.
Max pulled the wagon down the path toward the harbour.
The wheels went clickety-clack, clickety-clack on the stones.
The sound was soft and steady, like a lullaby.
"Clickety-clack, we'll bring the moon back," Max sang quietly.
They passed the old blue train at the edge of the dock.
It sat still and sleepy, its windows glowing gold.
"Clickety-clack, we'll bring the moon back," Max sang again.
The train gave a soft, drowsy toot in reply.
At the end of the dock, Max stopped.
They looked up at the sky.
The moon was still hidden, soft and shy behind the cloud.
Max felt a little unsure.
But then Max remembered something.
Their grandpa had once said that sometimes the moon just needs a friend to call it out.
Max took a deep breath.
"Moon," they called gently, "the boats are waiting. Please come out."
Bubbles lifted their whiskery nose and arp-arped too, soft and sweet.
The cloud drifted, slow as a sigh.
And there — the moon slipped free.
It poured silver light all across the water, gentle and glowing.
The boats rocked softly in the moonlight.
Their sails shimmered.
The harbour felt warm and safe again.
"Clickety-clack, we brought the moon back," Max whispered.
Max and Bubbles climbed back into the little red wagon.
Max pulled it slowly home, the wheels going clickety-clack, clickety-clack.
The moonlight followed them all the way.
Inside the little blue house, Max tucked into bed.
Bubbles curled up on the rug beside them, warm and close.
The moonlight spilled through the window, soft as a blanket.
Max's eyes grew heavy.
They could still hear the gentle clickety-clack, clickety-clack in their dreams.
And they smiled, because they had been brave.
They had helped the moon come out.
Outside, the boats rocked gently in the silver light.
Inside, Max and Bubbles drifted off to sleep, safe and warm and loved.
