Sam yawned and looked out the window.
The sun was setting soft and pink.
It was time for one last ride.
Sam's little red train, Toot, waited by the door.
"Ready for our goodnight ride?" Sam whispered.
Toot's wheels hummed softly… "Choo-choo-choo."
They rolled down the quiet street together.
The streetlights glowed like warm yellow moons.
A big blue truck rumbled past, carrying pillows.
The driver waved slow and sleepy.
"Time to say goodnight," Sam said gently.
Toot rolled past the fire station.
The red fire truck was tucked in for the night.
Its wheels were still and quiet.
They passed the garbage truck, parked and resting.
Its engine made a soft, sleepy hum.
"Goodnight, trucks," Sam whispered.
"Goodnight ride," Toot chuffed quietly.
At the train yard, all the trains were sleeping.
Their engines cooled under blankets of stars.
Sam felt so warm and cozy.
"Time to say goodnight," Sam said one more time.
Toot rolled Sam slowly home.
The wheels turned softer… softer… softer…
Sam climbed into bed, safe and warm.
Toot rested close beside the pillow.
Outside, all the trucks and trains were dreaming.
Sam's eyes grew heavy.
"Goodnight ride," Sam breathed.
And together, they drifted softly off to sleep.
