Far away, where the hills meet the stars, there lived a little boy named Ollie.
Every night, Ollie lay in his cozy bed and listened to the soft sounds outside his window.
He heard the hum of trucks on the faraway road.
He heard the gentle chug-chug of trains rolling slowly through the valley.
And beside him, on the pillow, sat Pip, his little owl friend, with feathers as soft as moonlight.
"Pip," Ollie whispered, "I wonder where all the trucks and trains go at night."
Pip blinked his big, round eyes and hooted softly.
"Let's find out," he said.
So Ollie closed his eyes, and together they floated gently out the window, soft as a dream.
They drifted down to the quiet road, where a big red truck was rolling slowly home.
Its headlights glowed like two warm lanterns.
The driver yawned and waved as he passed.
"Good night, truck," Ollie whispered.
The truck's engine hummed a low, sleepy hum.
"One more light, please," Ollie said softly.
Pip hooted, and they floated on.
They came to the railway, where a long blue train was chugging gently along the silver tracks.
Its wheels went clickety-clack, clickety-clack, soft and steady like a lullaby.
The train's windows glowed with golden light.
Inside, the conductor was tucking blankets over the empty seats.
"Good night, train," Ollie whispered.
The train let out one soft, sleepy whistle.
"One more light, please," Ollie said again.
Pip ruffled his feathers, and they drifted higher.
They floated to the edge of town, where a little yellow tractor was parked in a barn.
The barn smelled like warm hay and quiet evening air.
The tractor's headlights flickered once, then dimmed.
A soft blanket of straw covered the ground.
"Good night, tractor," Ollie whispered.
"One more light, please," he murmured, his voice growing softer.
Pip hooted gently and nudged Ollie's cheek with his wing.
"Look," Pip whispered.
Ollie opened his eyes just a little.
Above them, one last light was glowing.
It was the moon, soft and silver, shining down on all the sleeping trucks and trains and tractors.
It was shining down on Ollie, too.
"That's the best light," Ollie whispered.
And suddenly, he was back in his cozy bed, with Pip curled beside him.
The hum of the faraway road was soft and low.
The trains were resting.
The trucks were home.
Ollie pulled his blanket up to his chin.
He felt warm and safe and loved.
"Good night, Pip," he whispered.
Pip hooted one soft, sleepy hoot.
And together, they drifted off to sleep under the gentle glow of the moon.
