Hana sat on Fern's soft, mossy back. The gentle brachiosaurus hummed a low, sleepy tune. They were looking for something special tonight. "The stars are whispering," Hana said softly. Fern nodded her long, long neck. She could hear them too. The meadow grass swayed in the warm breeze. Little fireflies blinked their slow, golden lights. Hana yawned and leaned against Fern's warm side. "What are the stars saying?" she whispered. Fern took one slow step, then another. Her footsteps made a gentle thump… thump… thump on the soft earth. "They're saying something about the Sleepy Hollow," Fern whispered back. They walked through a grove of willow trees. The branches hung down like soft curtains. Hana reached out and touched the silky leaves. They felt cool and smooth on her fingers. A tiny triceratops peeked out from under a fern. "Hello, little one," Hana said gently. The tiny dinosaur blinked sleepy eyes and yawned. "The stars are whispering tonight," Hana told him. The little triceratops nodded and curled up again. Fern walked even slower now. Her steps were so gentle that Hana could barely feel them. Thump… thump… thump… The moon rose higher, big and silver. It made everything glow with soft, peaceful light. "There," Fern whispered, pointing with her nose. Ahead, in a circle of smooth stones, was the Sleepy Hollow. But when they got close, Hana saw something. The hollow was filled with soft moss and moonflowers. But the moonflowers had closed their petals tight. "Oh," Hana said quietly. "The flowers are sleeping." She felt a little unsure. How could they hear what the stars were whispering if the flowers wouldn't open? Fern lowered her head very gently beside Hana. "Maybe," she whispered, "they need to hear *us* first." Hana thought about that. She looked up at the whispering stars. They twinkled soft and patient. Then she had an idea. "Let's sing them a lullaby," Hana said. Fern's eyes grew warm and bright. "A perfect idea," she whispered. Hana began to hum, very softly. Fern joined in with her low, gentle rumble. The sound floated through the Sleepy Hollow like warm honey. Hana sang about the moon and the soft grass. She sang about friends who stay close. She sang about the stars… the whispering stars. One moonflower petal opened, just a little. Then another. Then all the moonflowers began to bloom. They glowed with a pale, silvery light. The light rose up like gentle breath into the night sky. And suddenly, Hana could hear it. The stars were whispering a lullaby back to them. "The stars are whispering," Hana said, smiling. "They're singing us to sleep." Fern settled down in the soft moss. She curled her long neck around in a cozy circle. Hana snuggled into the warm space between Fern's neck and her side. The moss was so soft, like the softest blanket. The moonflowers swayed gently. Their silvery light made everything feel safe and dreamy. A warm breeze carried the scent of night-blooming jasmine. Hana could feel Fern's slow, steady breathing. In… and out… in… and out… "Thank you for staying with me," Hana whispered. "Always," Fern whispered back. More little dinosaurs came to the Sleepy Hollow now. A small stegosaurus with sleepy eyes. Two tiny ankylosaurs, already yawning. They all curled up in the soft moss nearby. Everyone could hear the stars whispering their gentle song. Hana's eyes grew heavy. She looked up one more time at the silver moon. At the patient, twinkling stars. "The stars are whispering goodnight," she murmured. Fern hummed her low, sleepy tune. The moonflowers glowed softer… softer… softer… Hana felt so warm. So safe. So loved. Fern's heartbeat was a gentle drum beneath her ear. The whole world seemed to be breathing slowly together. In… and out… in… and out… Hana's eyes closed. She was drifting now, like a leaf on a quiet stream. All around her, the friendly dinosaurs slept. The moonflowers kept their soft watch. And the stars kept whispering… Whispering their gentle lullaby… Whispering sweet dreams… Until everything was peaceful. Until everything was still. Until Hana and Fern and all their friends were fast asleep under the whispering stars. Safe. Warm. Home.
