Once upon a time, in a snug little house at the end of a winding lane, there lived a child named Luna.
Luna had soft pajamas covered in tiny stars.
They had warm socks that whispered against the wooden floor.
And they had a gentle rabbit named Marbles, with fur as soft as a cloud.
One quiet evening, Luna looked out the window.
The sky was turning from pink to purple to deep, sleepy blue.
"Marbles," Luna whispered, "someone needs our help."
Down the lane, old Mr. Finch's porch light had gone out.
It was always glowing, warm and golden, like a little sun.
But tonight… the porch was dark.
Luna felt a wobbly, fluttery feeling in their tummy.
But Marbles hopped closer and pressed a soft nose against Luna's hand.
"We can be kind everyday heroes," Luna said softly.
So Luna put on their coat, the one with the big pockets.
Marbles hopped right beside them, ears tall and brave.
Together they walked down the lane, slow and steady.
The evening air smelled like grass and sleepy flowers.
Luna's footsteps made a gentle shush-shush sound.
Marbles' paws made no sound at all, just soft little hops.
When they reached Mr. Finch's porch, Luna saw the problem.
The light bulb had burned out, and Mr. Finch couldn't reach it.
He was sitting in his rocking chair, looking a little lonely.
"We can help," Luna said, because kind everyday heroes always help.
Luna found the stepstool by the door.
They climbed up, slow and careful, one step at a time.
Marbles sat at the bottom, watching with calm, steady eyes.
Luna unscrewed the old bulb and took a new one from their pocket.
(Luna's mama had tucked it there, just in case.)
They screwed it in, gentle and sure.
Click.
The porch glowed warm and golden again, like a little sun.
Mr. Finch smiled the softest, happiest smile.
"Thank you, kind everyday hero," he whispered.
Luna felt warm all over, like drinking cocoa on a chilly night.
Marbles twitched one ear, proud and calm.
"That's what kind everyday heroes do," Luna said.
They walked back home, slow and sleepy now.
The stars were coming out, one by one, soft and silver.
Luna's footsteps were even quieter, even gentler.
Inside, Luna climbed into bed.
Marbles hopped up and curled into a soft, warm ball at Luna's side.
The house was cozy and still.
Luna thought about the golden light glowing down the lane.
They thought about Mr. Finch's smile.
"Kind everyday heroes," Luna whispered, already half asleep.
Marbles' ears drooped, soft and sleepy.
Luna's eyes grew heavier and heavier.
The stars outside twinkled, gentle and calm.
And Luna and Marbles drifted off to sleep, warm and safe and loved, knowing that even the smallest kindness can light up the whole world.
