Nora yawned and rubbed her eyes.
It was time to check on the animals before bed.
Her fluffy lamb Clover walked beside her, soft as a cloud.
The barn was warm and glowing with lantern light.
Nora heard the animals stirring in their stalls.
"They sound restless," she whispered to Clover.
Clover nuzzled her hand gently.
The chickens were clucking softly in the corner.
The old brown cow was shifting in her hay.
Even the spotted pony seemed wide awake.
"Why can't they sleep?" Nora wondered.
Then she remembered something.
Mama always sang to *her* at bedtime…
Maybe the animals needed a goodnight song too.
Nora took a deep breath.
She began to hum, soft and low.
The tune floated through the warm barn air like a lullaby.
The chickens tucked their heads under their wings.
The cow's eyes grew heavy and slow.
The pony let out one long, peaceful breath.
Clover leaned against Nora's legs, so warm and still.
"Goodnight, friends," Nora whispered.
"Goodnight, friends," the barn seemed to whisper back.
She walked home under the starlight, Clover at her side.
The farmhouse windows glowed soft and golden.
Nora climbed into her own cozy bed.
Clover curled up right beside her, warm as a dream.
And together, they drifted off to sleep.
