"The animals are still awake."
Waddle looked up at her with his bright, kind eyes.
He made a gentle peep-peep sound.
It's time to say goodnight, he seemed to say.
So Daisy walked slowly across the warm grass.
Waddle waddled right beside her, never leaving her side.
The evening air smelled like hay and honeysuckle.
They found the chickens settling into their cozy coop.
"Goodnight, chickens," Daisy said softly.
The chickens ruffled their feathers and clucked a sleepy song.
Cluck-cluck… goodnight… goodnight.
Waddle peep-peeped quietly, and the chickens closed their eyes.
Daisy and Waddle walked to the barn.
Inside, the cow was lying in her bed of straw.
The straw looked so soft and golden in the dim light.
"Goodnight, cow," Daisy whispered.
The cow let out a long, gentle moo.
Moooo… goodnight… goodnight.
Waddle nestled closer to Daisy's ankle.
She could feel his warm, downy feathers.
They found the old horse by the fence.
He was watching the first stars appear.
"Goodnight, horse," Daisy said, her voice even softer now.
The horse lowered his head and gave a quiet, rumbly neigh.
Neigh… goodnight… goodnight.
The stars were twinkling like tiny lullabies.
Daisy yawned again, a bigger yawn this time.
Waddle waddled in a slow, sleepy circle.
"Time for us to say goodnight too," Daisy whispered.
She sat down in the soft grass.
Waddle climbed into her lap and tucked his head under his wing.
The farm was quiet now.
Every animal was dreaming gentle dreams.
Daisy lay back and looked up at the stars.
She could hear the animals breathing softly.
Goodnight… goodnight… goodnight.
Waddle's heartbeat was warm against her hand.
The grass was cool and sweet beneath her.
The moon smiled down at them both.
Daisy's eyes grew heavy.
Everything felt safe and calm and loved.
She closed her eyes.
Waddle was right beside her, already dreaming.
And together, under the stars, Daisy and Waddle drifted off to sleep.
