Mira sat on her bed with Cozy the bear in her lap. Outside her window, the moon was rising, big and round. "Cozy," she whispered, "I wonder how children go to sleep all around the world." Cozy's soft fur felt warm against her cheek. The room filled with gentle moonlight… And suddenly, Mira's blanket felt like it was floating. "We can visit them," Cozy said softly. Mira held him close. The moonlight carried them up, up, gently up. They floated down to a quiet house in Japan. Through the window, Mira saw a little boy in soft pajamas. His grandmother was singing a lullaby, low and slow. The boy's futon was spread on the floor, smooth and neat. A paper lantern glowed with warm orange light. "It's so peaceful," Mira whispered. Cozy nodded against her shoulder. The moonlight lifted them again, soft as a cloud. They drifted over mountains and seas. Mira felt sleepier with each gentle wave of light. They floated down to a cozy apartment in Sweden. A little girl was curled under a thick quilt. Her mother was reading by candlelight. The room smelled like warm cinnamon. Outside, snow was falling, silent and slow. "Everyone gets tucked in," Mira said softly. "Just like you," Cozy whispered. The moonlight carried them further, rocking them gently. Mira's eyes felt heavy. She held Cozy a little tighter. They floated down to a small house in Mexico. A boy was lying in a hammock that swayed back and forth. His abuela was humming a soft, sweet song. The night air was warm and smelled like jasmine flowers. Little lights twinkled in the trees outside. "The hammock rocks him to sleep," Mira whispered. Cozy's paw rested on her hand. The moonlight lifted them once more, so slowly. Mira yawned. Her head rested against Cozy's soft ear. They floated down to a houseboat in India. A little girl lay on a thin mattress near the water. Her father was telling her a story in a gentle voice. The boat rocked, just a little, on the quiet river. Stars reflected in the dark water like tiny candles. "The water rocks her too," Mira said, her voice sleepy. "Just like the moonlight rocks us," Cozy said. The moonlight began to carry them home. Mira could barely keep her eyes open now. She saw her own window ahead, glowing softly. They floated through the window, back to Mira's room. The moonlight set them down on her bed, gentle as a feather. Mira's blanket was still warm. Her pillow was still soft. "Cozy," she whispered, "children everywhere go to sleep." "Just like you," Cozy said again, his voice the softest whisper. Mira pulled her blanket up to her chin. Cozy was tucked right beside her, his nose touching her cheek. The moon shone through her window. Her room smelled like home. She could hear the quiet house around her, safe and still. "Everyone gets tucked in," Mira whispered one last time. Her eyes closed. Her breathing grew slow and deep. Cozy's soft fur was warm against her face. The moonlight stayed with her, gentle and calm. It wrapped around her bed like the softest blanket in the world. Mira's hand rested on Cozy's paw. Outside, the moon watched over every sleeping child. In Japan, in Sweden, in Mexico, in India. And in Mira's room, where the night was quiet and kind. Mira drifted into dreams, safe and warm. Cozy stayed right beside her, soft and still. The whole world was sleeping. And so was she.
