Long, long ago, when the moon was just waking up, a little girl named Ivy sat by her window with her friend Puddle.
Puddle was a small yellow duckling with the softest feathers.
He nested in Ivy's lap, warm and sleepy.
"I wonder," Ivy whispered, "how children go to sleep all around the world."
Puddle gave a gentle peep.
And just then, a silver feather floated through the window...
It shimmered like moonlight on water.
"Shall we follow it?" Ivy asked softly.
Puddle tucked close to her, and together they climbed into the feather.
It grew wide and soft beneath them, like a little boat.
The feather boat lifted them up, up, up into the quiet night.
They floated over a land of snow and stars.
Below, a child was snuggled in furs, listening to the northern lights hum.
"Goodnight, little one," Ivy whispered.
The child smiled in their sleep.
The feather boat drifted on, soft as a sigh.
They sailed over a desert where the sand was still warm.
A child lay on a rooftop under a blanket of wool, counting the stars.
Puddle peeped very quietly.
The child's eyes grew heavy, and they drifted off to sleep.
"Everyone is so cozy," Ivy said, her voice growing softer.
The feather boat carried them over a jungle full of cricket songs.
A child swayed gently in a hammock, rocked by the warm breeze.
Ivy could hear the leaves whispering goodnight.
Puddle nestled deeper into her arms.
They floated over an island where the ocean sang a lullaby.
A child slept in a little hut, wrapped in soft cloth, listening to the waves.
"Goodnight, little one," Ivy whispered again.
Her own eyes were growing heavy now.
The feather boat turned slowly, heading home.
It drifted back through Ivy's window, soft as a cloud.
Ivy climbed into her own bed, still holding Puddle close.
The silver feather tucked itself under her pillow.
"Everyone is sleeping," Ivy murmured.
"All around the world... so cozy..."
Puddle gave one last tiny peep.
Outside, the moon smiled down.
Inside, Ivy's breathing grew slow and deep.
Puddle's little head rested on her shoulder.
And together, warm and safe, they both drifted off to sleep.
Goodnight, little one.
