Once upon a time, in a soft green forest where the trees whispered goodnight, there lived a child named Ivy.
Ivy had a friend called Puddle, a small yellow duckling with warm, downy feathers.
Every evening, just as the sun turned golden, Ivy and Puddle would walk together through the quiet woods.
Tonight, the air smelled like pine needles and moss.
Ivy yawned and said softly, "I wish we had a little light to help us home."
Puddle fluffed their feathers and quacked, very gently.
They waddled close to Ivy's feet, staying right by their side.
The forest path grew dim and shadowy.
Ivy felt a wobbly, fluttery feeling in their tummy because the way looked so dark.
But then they noticed something wonderful.
Tiny acorns were glowing softly on the ground, like little golden lanterns.
Ivy knelt down and touched one.
It was warm and smooth, glowing with a gentle, sleepy light.
"Look, Puddle," Ivy whispered. "The acorns are lighting the way."
Puddle quacked softly, as if to say, "Follow them."
So Ivy and Puddle walked slowly, step by step, following the glowing acorns.
Each acorn shone a little brighter as they passed, then dimmed again, like a yawn.
A rabbit with velvet-soft ears hopped out from behind a fern.
"Thank you for following the acorns," the rabbit said in a drowsy voice.
"We light them every night so no one gets lost."
Ivy smiled and said, "They're beautiful."
The rabbit twitched their nose and hopped away into the shadows.
Ivy and Puddle kept walking, following the glowing acorns.
The path curved gently around mossy stones and under low, leafy branches.
A sleepy squirrel peeked down from a branch.
"The acorns will take you home," the squirrel murmured, then curled up in a cozy ball.
Ivy felt braver now, because the forest was helping them.
They walked and walked, and the acorns glowed softer and softer.
Puddle stayed close, their little webbed feet patting the ground.
The trees seemed to lean in, making the path feel snug and safe.
At last, Ivy saw their own little cottage at the edge of the woods.
The windows glowed with warm lamplight.
The very last acorn sat right at the doorstep, shining like a tiny star.
Ivy picked it up and held it gently.
"Thank you, acorns," they whispered.
Then they set it back down, and it dimmed to sleep.
Inside, Ivy and Puddle curled up together on a soft, woolly blanket.
Puddle tucked their head under one wing.
Ivy closed their eyes and thought of the glowing acorns, lighting the way for everyone.
The forest was quiet and safe.
The acorns were resting.
And Ivy and Puddle drifted off to sleep, warm and loved, dreaming of gentle lights in the trees.
