Long, long ago, in a land where the clouds were made of cotton candy and the rivers hummed soft lullabies, there lived a child named Ivy.
Ivy had a companion, a small yellow duckling named Puddle, who waddled everywhere by their side.
One evening, as the sky turned the colour of lavender honey, Ivy felt curious.
"I wonder what's beyond the willow trees," they whispered.
Puddle quacked softly, as if to say, "Let's find out together."
They walked through a meadow where the grass was as soft as velvet.
The air smelled like warm milk and cinnamon.
Fireflies blinked their tiny lights, slow and gentle, like sleepy stars.
"Everything feels so quiet here," Ivy said, and their voice sounded like a feather floating down.
Soon they came to a bridge made entirely of shimmering moonlight.
It glowed with a silvery, peaceful light that made Ivy's eyes feel heavy.
But the bridge was very narrow, and Ivy felt a wobbly, fluttery feeling in their tummy.
"I'm not sure I can cross," they said softly.
Puddle nestled close to their ankle and let out the gentlest peep.
Ivy looked down at their friend.
Puddle's eyes were calm and trusting.
"You'll stay with me?" Ivy asked.
Puddle quacked once, soft as a whisper, and that made Ivy feel braver.
Ivy took one small step onto the shimmer bridge.
The moonlight felt warm beneath their feet, like stepping on a cloud made of kindness.
They took another step, and another, and Puddle waddled right beside them, steady and true.
"Everything feels so quiet here," Ivy said again, and the words felt like a cozy blanket.
Halfway across, Ivy noticed something magical.
Tiny silver fish swam in the air beneath the bridge, slow and graceful, trailing sparkles like sleepy trails of stardust.
The fish hummed a tune so soft it sounded like a mother's lullaby.
Ivy's shoulders relaxed, and they smiled.
At the end of the bridge, they found a nest woven from dandelion fluff and moonbeams.
It was just the right size for a child and a duckling.
"This is perfect," Ivy whispered.
They climbed in, and Puddle snuggled against their side, warm and safe.
The shimmer bridge glowed softly in the distance.
The silver fish hummed their lullaby.
"Everything feels so quiet here," Ivy murmured one last time, their eyes closing.
Puddle tucked their beak beneath one wing.
And together, safe and warm and loved, they drifted off to sleep.
