Once upon a time, a wolf lived near a meadow.
He watched the fluffy sheep grazing in the soft grass.
The wolf wanted to make friends with them…
But the sheep always ran away when they saw him coming.
One morning, the wolf found something in the field.
It was a soft, woolly sheepskin someone had left behind.
The wolf had an idea.
He draped the wool over his back like a cozy blanket.
Now he looked just like a sheep!
The wolf walked slowly into the meadow.
The sheep looked up and saw what they thought was a new friend.
"Hello!" they called softly.
The wolf tried to say hello back, but it came out all growly.
The sheep tilted their heads.
"Are you feeling all right?" asked a kind old sheep.
"You sound a little different."
The wolf felt silly.
His disguise wasn't working very well after all.
The wise old sheep came closer and looked at him gently.
"You're the wolf from the woods, aren't you?" she whispered.
The wolf nodded, feeling embarrassed.
He took off the woolly disguise.
"I just wanted to be friends," he said quietly.
The old sheep smiled.
"You don't need to pretend to be someone else," she said softly.
"If you want friends, just be yourself and be kind."
The wolf thought about this.
"Could I visit sometimes?" he asked. "I could help watch for storms."
The sheep agreed.
From that day on, the wolf would visit the meadow.
He would sit peacefully at the edge and keep watch.
The sheep brought him clover and told him stories.
Now when the sun sets, the wolf rests on the hill.
The sheep graze nearby, safe and calm.
Everyone is warm.
Everyone is peaceful.
Everyone drifts off to sleep under the gentle stars…
