Once upon a time, four little rabbits lived with their mother in a cozy burrow beneath a big fir tree.
Their names were Flopsy, Mopsy, Cotton-tail, and Peter.
One sunny morning, Mother Rabbit smoothed their soft ears and said gently, "You may play in the meadow, my dears, but please stay away from Mr. McGregor's garden."
The three careful rabbits hopped off to pick sweet blackberries.
But curious Peter… he hopped straight toward the garden gate.
He squeezed underneath and found himself among the most wonderful vegetables.
First he nibbled some crisp lettuce leaves.
Then he munched on tender green beans.
Then he found the radishes, so round and bright.
But suddenly, Peter heard footsteps.
It was kind old Mr. McGregor, tending his plants.
Peter's heart went pitter-pat, and he scampered away as fast as his little legs could carry him.
He got a bit turned around among the tall plants…
But then he spotted a friendly sparrow who chirped softly, showing him the way.
Peter wiggled back under the gate and hopped home through the soft grass.
His mother was waiting with a gentle smile.
She wasn't cross, just glad he was safe.
She made him cozy chamomile tea to settle his tumbly tummy.
Peter's sisters shared their sweet blackberries for supper.
Then Mother Rabbit tucked all four little bunnies into their warm, soft beds.
She kissed each furry head and whispered, "Sleep well, my darlings."
Peter snuggled deep into his blanket, thinking about his big adventure.
His tummy felt better now, all warm and calm.
Outside, the moon rose over the meadow…
The fir tree swayed gently in the evening breeze…
And Peter Rabbit closed his sleepy eyes and drifted off to the most peaceful dreams.
