One warm spring day, they rested together under a shady tree.
The boy drifted off to sleep holding his dear rabbit close.
The rabbit watched butterflies dance in the peaceful garden.
He saw wild rabbits hopping softly through the flowers.
The wild rabbits had noses that wiggled just like his.
"I am Real," he thought happily. "The boy's love made me Real."
Later that season, the boy had to rest in bed for many days.
The rabbit stayed right beside him, keeping him company.
The boy got better and better, growing strong again.
But the grown-ups said the old toys must be put away now.
The rabbit was placed gently in a quiet sack with other soft things.
He felt sleepy there in the darkness, remembering all the love.
That night, something magical happened in the garden.
A kind fairy appeared where the rabbit lay dreaming.
"You were loved so much," she whispered, "you became Real."
She touched him softly with a gentle wand.
The rabbit felt a warm, tingly feeling all through him.
His button eyes grew bright and his nose began to wiggle.
His velvet legs grew strong enough to hop.
He was a real rabbit now, soft and alive.
He hopped into the garden under the silver moon.
The other real rabbits welcomed him with gentle nose-touches.
He was home.
Sometimes on quiet mornings, the boy would see the rabbits playing.
One soft brown rabbit always looked at him with kind, knowing eyes.
The boy would smile, feeling a warm memory in his heart.
And the rabbit, now Real and free, was happy.
He had been loved, and love had made everything magical.
Every night he would rest in the soft grass, remembering.
He would think of the boy who hugged him close.
And he would fall asleep feeling warm and safe and loved.
The stars twinkled gently above the peaceful garden.
All the rabbits snuggled together in their cozy burrow.
