On a sunny farm by a quiet pond, a mother duck sat on her nest.
She waited and waited, keeping her eggs warm.
One by one, the eggs began to crack.
Out came fluffy yellow ducklings, peeping softly.
But one egg, the biggest one, stayed still.
Mother Duck waited a little longer…
At last, the big egg cracked open.
Out tumbled a duckling who looked different from the others.
He was gray and gangly, with big feet.
The other ducklings looked at him curiously.
"You don't look like us," they said.
The little gray duckling felt shy and quiet.
He followed his mother to the pond anyway.
When he swam, he swam beautifully, gliding like a dream.
But the other animals noticed he looked different.
"What a funny-looking duckling," the chickens clucked softly.
The gray duckling felt sad and lonely.
One misty morning, he decided to go on a journey.
He waddled away from the farm, looking for a place to belong.
He came to a meadow where wild ducks paddled.
"May I stay here?" he asked hopefully.
"You're welcome to rest," they said kindly, "but you're not quite like us."
So he traveled on, feeling small.
Autumn came, with leaves drifting down like whispers.
The little duckling found a cozy marsh to rest in.
He watched the sky and saw beautiful white birds flying overhead.
They had long necks and graceful wings.
"How lovely they are," he thought, feeling a flutter in his heart.
Winter arrived, soft and still.
The duckling tucked himself into the reeds and waited quietly.
Snow fell gently, covering everything in white.
He slept and dreamed through the cold months.
When spring returned, the world woke up again.
Flowers opened, and the sun felt warm.
The duckling stretched his wings, which felt bigger now.
He walked to the pond and looked down into the water…
And saw a beautiful swan looking back at him.
He had a long, graceful neck and snow-white feathers.
"Is that… me?" he whispered in wonder.
Just then, the beautiful white birds he'd seen before glided down.
"Come swim with us," they called gently.
"You're one of us," they said warmly.
The young swan joined them, his heart full of joy.
Children came to the pond and pointed happily.
"Look at the beautiful swans," they said.
The young swan felt loved and peaceful at last.
He belonged.
That night, he tucked his head under his soft wing.
The moon shone on the quiet water.
He closed his eyes, safe and happy.
And he drifted into the sweetest dreams…
