Once upon a time, a beautiful peacock lived by a quiet pond.
His feathers shimmered in blue and green and gold.
He loved to spread his tail wide and watch it sparkle in the sun.
One soft morning, a crane landed gently by the water.
The crane had long gray feathers, simple and smooth.
The peacock looked at the crane and smiled.
"Hello, friend," said the peacock softly.
"Look at my beautiful tail… isn't it wonderful?"
The crane nodded kindly.
"Your feathers are very lovely," she said.
The peacock fanned his tail even wider.
"I sparkle like jewels," he said, feeling very proud.
"What do your feathers do?"
The crane thought for a moment, then stretched her wide wings.
"My feathers help me fly," she whispered.
And with a gentle whoosh, the crane lifted into the sky.
She soared high above the pond, gliding on the soft breeze.
She flew over the trees and circled back down.
The peacock watched with wonder.
He tried to fly, but his heavy tail kept him on the ground.
The crane landed beside him with a gentle splash.
"Your tail is beautiful to see," she said warmly.
"And my wings are beautiful to use."
The peacock nodded slowly, understanding.
"We are both special," he said softly.
"In our own different ways."
The crane smiled, and they sat together by the calm water.
The sun began to set, painting the sky in gentle colors.
The peacock folded his tail, and the crane tucked her wings.
Side by side, they watched the stars begin to twinkle.
And as the pond grew quiet and still, they closed their eyes…
