She was thin and graceful, swaying gently in the breeze.
Her soft green leaves whispered quiet songs.
One peaceful afternoon, the oak tree called down to the reed.
"Little friend," he said kindly, "you are so small and delicate."
"I wish I could share my strength with you."
The reed smiled up at him.
"You are very kind," she whispered softly.
"But I am happy just as I am."
"When the wind blows, I bend and dance."
That evening, a playful wind began to blow across the meadow.
It rustled through the grass and tickled the flowers.
The oak tree stood tall and still, his branches barely moving.
The little reed swayed and bowed, dancing with each gentle gust.
The wind grew a little stronger, whooshing and swirling.
The oak tree held firm, proud and steady.
But the little reed bent all the way down…
Then sprang back up again, laughing quietly.
As the wind softened into a lullaby breeze, the oak tree understood.
"You are wiser than I knew," he whispered to his friend.
The reed settled peacefully by the stream.
The oak tree's leaves rustled a gentle goodnight song.
The stars began to twinkle overhead.
And the meadow grew soft and sleepy and still.
