Once upon a time, a little hare lived in a soft meadow by the woods.
She had long ears and a fluffy white tail.
Every morning, she hopped through the tall grass, nibbling clover.
One sunny day, a young hound came bounding into the meadow.
He had floppy ears and a wagging tail.
He saw the little hare and thought she looked like fun to chase.
"Let's play!" he barked cheerfully.
But the hare wasn't sure if he wanted to play or catch her.
So she hopped away, quick as could be.
The hound ran after her, his paws thumping on the soft ground.
The hare zigzagged left, then right, then left again.
She knew all the best hiding spots in the meadow.
Soon the hound was panting and tired.
His tongue hung out and his legs felt wobbly.
He sat down in the cool grass to rest.
The little hare peeked out from behind a daisy.
She saw the hound wasn't chasing anymore.
She hopped a little closer…
"I'm too tired to run," the hound said softly.
"You're much too quick for me."
The hare wiggled her nose thoughtfully.
"Maybe we could be friends instead," she whispered.
The hound's tail gave a gentle wag.
"I'd like that," he said.
So the hare hopped over and sat beside him in the warm sun.
They rested together in the quiet meadow.
The butterflies danced around them.
The breeze was soft and sweet.
And as the sun began to set, painting the sky pink and gold…
The little hare and the young hound curled up side by side.
They closed their eyes, safe and cozy.
And dreamed peaceful dreams together under the stars.
