But then the goose looked back at him with her kind, trusting eyes.
The farmer sat down slowly in the grass.
He thought about how happy he'd been each morning, finding one perfect egg.
He thought about his gentle goose, who trusted him.
"I have enough," he said softly to himself.
"One golden egg each day is the most wonderful gift."
From that day on, the farmer simply said thank you each morning.
He cared for his goose with a grateful heart.
She nested peacefully in her soft straw.
And every sunrise brought one beautiful golden egg, glowing warm and gentle.
The farmer smiled, the goose rested, and all was well.
The stars twinkled above the meadow.
The goose tucked her head beneath her wing.
And everything was safe and cozy and right.
