Once upon a time, a clever fox lived near a quiet pond.
One day, she invited her friend the stork to dinner.
The stork was so happy to be invited.
She walked on her long, graceful legs all the way to the fox's cozy den.
The fox served soup in a wide, flat dish.
The fox lapped up her soup easily with her little tongue.
But the stork's long, thin beak couldn't pick up the soup at all.
She tried and tried, but she stayed hungry.
The fox giggled softly, thinking it was funny.
The stork wasn't angry…
She just thought quietly to herself.
A few days later, the stork invited the fox to her nest by the water.
The fox trotted over, feeling excited for dinner.
The stork served delicious soup in a tall, narrow jar.
The stork dipped her long beak in easily and sipped.
But the fox's little mouth couldn't reach inside at all.
She tried and tried, but she couldn't taste a single drop.
Then the fox understood.
"I'm sorry I wasn't kind," she whispered.
"I should have thought about you."
The stork smiled gently.
"Let's try again," she said softly.
So they made dinner together this time.
They found bowls that were just right for both of them.
They shared warm soup and fresh bread under the stars.
The fox and the stork talked and laughed as the moon rose.
They became the very best of friends.
Now they always think of each other with kindness.
And every night, they say goodnight across the pond…
The fox curled up in her den, warm and cozy.
The stork tucked her head under her soft wing.
And they both drifted off to sleep, safe and loved.
Goodnight, little one.
