One warm summer afternoon, a little fox was walking through a sunny garden.
The air smelled sweet.
The grass felt soft under his paws.
He was looking for something nice to eat.
Then he saw them…
High up on a wooden fence, purple grapes hung in beautiful bunches.
They looked so round and shiny.
The little fox's tummy rumbled softly.
"Those grapes look perfect," he whispered to himself.
He stood on his back legs and reached up with his front paws.
But the grapes were too high.
He tried again, stretching as tall as he could.
Still too high.
The little fox sat down to think.
A butterfly floated by.
The garden was very quiet and peaceful.
He tried one more time, jumping just a little.
But the grapes stayed where they were, up on the fence.
The little fox tilted his head and smiled.
"You know what?" he said softly to the grapes.
"I think you might be a little sour anyway."
"I'll find something else that's just right for me."
He walked slowly through the garden, feeling the warm sun on his fur.
Near a shady tree, he found some berries growing low on a bush.
They were red and sweet and just the right size.
The little fox ate a few berries.
They tasted wonderful.
"These are exactly what I needed," he whispered happily.
Then he curled up under the tree in the soft, cool shade.
The leaves whispered above him.
A gentle breeze rocked him softly.
The little fox closed his eyes.
He felt warm and safe and perfectly content.
And as the garden grew quiet around him, he drifted off to sleep.
