Once there was a sweet brown dog with floppy ears. He lived in a cozy village by a gentle stream. One sunny morning, a kind baker gave him a treat. It was a soft, warm biscuit that smelled wonderful. The dog wagged his tail and said, "Thank you!" He held the biscuit gently in his mouth. Then he trotted down the path toward home. The path led over a little wooden bridge. The water below was calm and clear as glass. The dog stopped in the middle of the bridge to rest. He looked down at the shining water… And he saw another dog looking back at him! The other dog had a biscuit too. "Oh my," the dog thought softly. He tilted his head, and the other dog tilted too. He wagged his tail, and so did the reflection. The dog opened his mouth to say hello… And splash! His biscuit tumbled into the stream. The other dog disappeared in the ripples. The dog blinked and looked closer. There was no other dog at all. It had only been his own reflection in the water. "Oh," he said quietly. "I see now." The kind baker had been watching from the bridge. She smiled and came over with another warm biscuit. "Here you go, sweet pup," she said softly. The dog wagged his tail and took it gently. This time he walked straight home. He curled up in his soft, cozy bed. He ate his biscuit slowly, every warm bite. Then he rested his head on his favorite pillow. The afternoon sun made everything golden and peaceful. The dog closed his eyes with a happy sigh. He dreamed of kind bakers and gentle streams… And drifted off to sleep, safe and loved.
