Three travelers walked down a quiet road one evening.
They carried nothing but walking sticks and smiles.
The sun was setting soft and golden.
They came to a little village at the edge of a forest.
The houses had warm lights in the windows.
"Let's see if anyone will share supper with us," said the first traveler.
They knocked on the first door.
A woman peeked out.
"We have nothing extra tonight," she said softly, and closed the door.
They knocked on the next house.
"So sorry," said a man. "Not tonight."
Door after door, everyone said the same gentle thing.
The villagers were worried about their own cupboards.
They wanted to keep what little they had.
The travelers sat down in the village square.
"That's all right," said the second traveler. "We can make stone soup."
"Stone soup?" whispered a little girl who was watching.
The travelers found three smooth stones by the well.
They filled a big pot with water.
They built a small, crackling fire underneath.
"These are magic soup stones," said the third traveler with a wink.
They dropped the stones into the water with three soft plops.
More villagers came to see.
"Soup from stones?" asked a grandmother.
"Oh yes," said the travelers. "Though… a carrot would make it even better."
"I have a carrot!" said the grandmother, and she hurried home.
She came back and dropped it in with a gentle splash.
"Wonderful," said the first traveler, stirring slowly. "Of course… an onion would make it perfect."
"I have an onion!" called the woman from the first house.
One by one, the villagers remembered things they could share.
A potato here.
Some beans there.
A handful of herbs from someone's garden.
A little salt from another neighbor.
The soup bubbled and simmered.
It smelled like comfort and kindness.
Soon the pot was full of the most delicious soup anyone had ever seen.
The travelers ladled it into bowls for everyone.
The whole village sat together in the square.
They shared the warm soup as stars began to twinkle.
Everyone felt cozy and full.
"This is the best soup I've ever tasted," said the little girl.
"That's because everyone added something from their heart," said the travelers softly.
The villagers smiled at each other.
They had more than they thought.
And sharing made everything warmer.
That night, the travelers stayed in the coziest beds the village could offer.
The little girl drifted off to sleep thinking of magic stones.
And the whole village dreamed of soup… and kindness… and friends.
The pot sat quietly by the fire.
The stones rested at the bottom, smooth and peaceful.
And everyone slept safe and warm, knowing that together, there was always enough.
