Once upon a time, a kind king and queen had a baby girl.
She was so lovely, they named her Aurora.
They invited everyone in the kingdom to celebrate.
Seven good fairies came, each bringing a special gift.
The first fairy gave her kindness.
The second gave her a gentle laugh.
The third gave her grace.
The fourth gave her curiosity.
The fifth gave her a singing voice.
The sixth gave her dancing feet.
But before the seventh fairy could give her gift, an old fairy arrived.
She had been forgotten, and her feelings were hurt.
"When the princess is grown," she said sadly, "she will prick her finger and fall into a deep sleep."
Everyone gasped softly.
But the seventh fairy stepped forward with a gentle smile.
"I cannot undo this wish," she said, "but I can make it better."
"The princess will sleep, yes… but only until true love's kiss awakens her."
"And everyone in the castle will sleep beside her, so she is never alone."
The years passed peacefully.
Aurora grew into a thoughtful, gentle young woman.
She loved walking in the garden and singing to the birds.
On her sixteenth birthday, she wandered through the castle.
She found a quiet tower room she'd never seen before.
Inside sat a kind old woman at a spinning wheel.
"What is that?" Aurora asked softly.
"Would you like to try?" the woman offered.
Aurora reached out… and pricked her finger on the spindle.
She yawned, feeling suddenly so sleepy.
She lay down on a soft couch by the window.
And she drifted into the deepest, most peaceful sleep.
All through the castle, everyone else grew sleepy too.
The king and queen dozed in their thrones.
The cook fell asleep stirring soup.
The cat curled up by the warm fire.
Even the doves on the roof tucked their heads under their wings.
Roses grew up around the castle, soft and thick, keeping everyone safe inside.
The castle slept for a hundred years.
One day, a kind prince was riding through the forest.
He saw the rose-covered castle glowing in the sunset.
"How beautiful," he whispered.
The roses opened a gentle path for him.
He walked through the sleeping castle, marveling at the peace.
Then he found Aurora, sleeping by the window.
She looked so serene, he smiled.
He knelt beside her and softly kissed her forehead.
Aurora's eyes fluttered open.
She smiled at him.
"I had the loveliest dream," she said quietly.
All around them, the castle began to wake.
The king and queen stretched and smiled.
The cook finished stirring her soup.
The cat opened one eye, then the other.
The doves cooed softly on the roof.
Aurora and the prince walked together into the garden.
The sun was setting, painting everything gold and pink.
"Will you stay?" Aurora asked.
"Always," he promised.
And they sat together under the roses as the stars came out.
Everyone in the castle gathered for a quiet celebration.
There was gentle music and warm bread and sweet berries.
As the moon rose full and silver, Aurora yawned.
"I think," she said softly, "it's time for sleep again."
But this time, she would wake with the morning birds.
The prince tucked a soft blanket around her.
"Goodnight, Aurora," he whispered.
"Goodnight," she murmured, already drifting off.
And in the castle, everyone settled down to sleep.
The stars watched over them.
The roses swayed in the gentle breeze.
And all was peaceful and safe and loved.
