The parents said yes, and the woman took Rapunzel to live with her in the tower.
The tower stood in a quiet garden, surrounded by trees and flowers.
Rapunzel grew up safe and warm, looking out the window at birds and clouds.
Her golden hair grew longer and longer, shimmering in the sunlight.
The woman would call up softly, "Rapunzel, Rapunzel, let down your hair."
And Rapunzel would lower her long, long braid like a golden rope.
The woman would climb up for visits, bringing warm soup and stories.
The years passed peacefully in the tall tower.
Rapunzel sang songs to the birds and painted pictures of the sky.
But sometimes she wondered what lay beyond the garden.
One day, a kind young prince was riding through the forest.
He heard Rapunzel's gentle singing floating on the breeze.
He followed the sound to the tower and waited quietly below.
When he heard the woman call, he learned the special words.
The next day, he called up softly, "Rapunzel, Rapunzel, let down your hair."
Rapunzel lowered her braid, and the prince climbed up.
"Hello," he said with a friendly smile.
"Hello," Rapunzel whispered, surprised but not afraid.
They talked and laughed and became the best of friends.
The prince visited every day, bringing stories of the world outside.
Rapunzel told him about the clouds and the birds she loved.
"Would you like to see the world?" the prince asked gently.
"Oh, yes," said Rapunzel, "but I don't know how to climb down."
"I'll help you," the prince said kindly.
Together they made a plan.
When the woman came the next day, Rapunzel said, "I'd like to see the garden."
The woman thought for a moment, then smiled.
"You're right," she said softly. "You've grown up. It's time."
She showed Rapunzel a hidden stairway inside the tower that wound gently down.
Rapunzel had never known it was there.
The woman had been lonely and afraid to let her go.
But now she understood that Rapunzel needed to spread her wings.
Rapunzel hugged her tight. "Will you come visit me?" she asked.
"Always," the woman promised.
Rapunzel walked down the stairs and into the garden.
The prince was waiting with a gentle smile.
The woman watched from the window and waved.
Rapunzel visited the kingdom, where everyone loved her kind heart and sweet songs.
She visited the tower often, bringing the woman flowers and stories.
And every night, Rapunzel brushed her long, golden hair.
She thought of her tower, her garden, her friend the prince, and the woman who loved her.
She climbed into her cozy bed and closed her eyes.
The stars twinkled softly outside her window.
And Rapunzel drifted off to sleep, safe and loved and dreaming of tomorrow.
