Once upon a time, there was a little girl who loved to wear a soft red hood.
Everyone called her Little Red Riding Hood.
One sunny morning, her mother said softly, "Grandma isn't feeling well today."
"Let's send her a basket of warm muffins and honey."
Little Red Riding Hood smiled.
"I'll take it to her!" she said.
Her mother packed the basket with care.
She tucked in the muffins, a jar of golden honey, and some sweet berries.
"Stay on the path through the woods," Mother said gently.
"I will," promised Little Red Riding Hood.
She skipped along the forest path, humming a quiet tune.
The trees swayed softly in the breeze.
Birds sang their gentle songs above her.
Soon she met a wolf resting by the path.
"Good morning," said the wolf in a surprisingly friendly voice.
"Where are you going on this lovely day?"
"I'm taking muffins to my grandma," she said sweetly.
"She lives in the cottage by the big oak tree."
The wolf thought for a moment.
He was feeling rather mischievous today.
"Why not pick some flowers for her?" he suggested with a grin.
"What a wonderful idea!" said Little Red Riding Hood.
She wandered off the path just a little, gathering soft yellow daisies.
The wolf hurried ahead to Grandma's cottage.
When he arrived, he knocked gently on the door.
"Who is it?" called Grandma from inside.
"It's Little Red Riding Hood," the wolf said in a high, squeaky voice.
Grandma knew right away something was funny.
She peeked out the window and saw the wolf's tail.
Clever Grandma tiptoed out the back door…
And hid in the garden shed where she kept her cozy quilts.
The wolf let himself in and looked around.
He put on Grandma's nightcap and glasses.
He climbed into her soft bed and pulled up the blankets.
Soon Little Red Riding Hood arrived with her flowers and basket.
She knocked softly on the door.
"Come in, dear," called the wolf in his squeaky voice.
Little Red Riding Hood stepped inside.
She walked slowly to the bed.
"Grandma," she said gently, "what big ears you have."
"All the better to hear you with, my dear," said the wolf.
"And Grandma… what big eyes you have."
"All the better to see you with," he replied.
"And Grandma… what big teeth you have!"
"All the better to… eat these delicious muffins with!" said the wolf.
He couldn't help himself anymore.
He jumped up and the nightcap fell off.
Little Red Riding Hood giggled.
"You're not my grandma at all!"
Just then, the real Grandma came in from the garden.
"I thought I heard a silly wolf," she said with a knowing smile.
The wolf felt rather embarrassed.
"I'm sorry," he said softly.
"I was just being foolish."
Grandma was very kind.
"Why don't you stay for muffins?" she offered.
So they all sat together at the little table.
They shared the warm muffins and honey.
The wolf promised to be more thoughtful.
Little Red Riding Hood hugged her grandma tight.
After their snack, Grandma tucked Little Red Riding Hood into the spare bed.
The wolf curled up sleepily by the warm fireplace.
Grandma sat in her rocking chair, humming a gentle lullaby.
The cottage was cozy and peaceful.
Outside, the sun was setting soft and gold.
Everyone was safe and warm and loved.
And they all drifted off to sleep…
